Electronic Cigarette User Indicted After Unruly Conduct on Plane

In an update to our previous post, a Federal Grand Jury has indicted the man who used an electronic cigarette aboard a Continental Airlines flight forcing it to return to Portland. According to KPTV:

Shortly after takeoff, Yazeed Mohammed Abunayyan began using an electronic cigarette, which are subject to the same rules as regular cigarettes, according to Port of Portland police. As a result, flight attendants asked Abunayyan to put it away.

In court documents, authorities accuse him of refusing to relinquish the e-cigarette when asked by the flight attendant.

A grand jury indictment also said Abunayyan yelled profanities, swung his fist at the flight attendant, hit or attempted to hit several passengers, and spoke or sung about Osama bin Laden and his hatred of women. Click here to read more.. »

Smoke Anywhere – But Not On Planes

The following news item proves two things: a) you can’t smoke anywhere, b) some electronic cigarette users give the rest of us a really bad name. It is unfortunate that people don’t understand the consequences of their actions. One e-cigarette smoker inconvenienced an entire plane filled with passengers when he refused to “turn off” his e-cigarette. According to a report in the Oregonian published on Feb 21st:

Bill to Ban Electronic Cigarettes Passes Utah House

A recent news item, this time from Utah, once again proves that the electronic cigarette industry needs a better awareness campaign. This article from the Deseret News clearly shows that journalists and lawmakers alike are incredibly ill informed. As one small example, get a load of the quote from David Neville, the spokesman for the Tobacco Prevention and Control Program at the Utah Department of Health. He said: “There is no safe level of tobacco smoke.”
